Wasps vs Humans celebrate the new Album 'The Day Homo Sapiens Destroyed the Earth' with a night of Anarchic, Raw, Electro Punk Folk Energy.
Recorded between Dublin and Cork, the album is the culmination of two years of gigging, capturing the raw energy of the live show in a harder, grittier yet more melodic sound. Heavy guitar riffs and thundering beats collide with harmonies, folk influences, whistles and bodhrán — though there’s not a trad song in sight!
WvHs are an anarchic mix of drums, bodhrán, whistles, punk poetry, songs and beats. A sonic assault of electronic punk-folk energy tackles disappointment, inner-city crime, a fame-obsessed culture and social decay with a huge dollop of desperation, balanced by equal measures of anger and wit, creating a darkly humorous soundtrack to modern life.
Electronic beats fuse with distorted guitars; poems are screamed straight into your face, alongside post-punk hooks, ensuring every set is as confrontational as it is uncompromising and raw.
Initially a solo project, WvHs punk poet/drummer, Carl Antony Plover has opened for the likes of John Cooper Clarke, Whipping Boy and Mark E. Smith's The Fall. He has released an album and single with 80s Avant Garde band 4,000,000 Telephones, earning critical acclaim in the UK national press and airplay on BBC Radio 1's John Peel show.
Since joining forces with musician wife Linda Plover in 2024, WvHs have continued to expand their sound, while their live performances have grown ever more intense. Electronic beats fuse with distorted guitars; poems are screamed straight into your face, alongside post-punk hooks making every set as confrontational as uncompromising and raw.
Joining Wasps vs Humans on the night are special guests, JAPANESE JESUS. Bertie and Denny have previously played under the guise of Supermodel Twins in the noughties, even recording their debut album with Noel Hogan of The Cranberries on production duties.
Their sound now is much more alternative and punk, having recorded their debut single with Mike Gavin (Windings, The Cranberries) and Mastered by Richard Dowling (Foo Fighters, David Bowie, Brian Eno). Their debut single, Facilities, was released on August 20th 2021 across all digital platforms, and received rave reviews from prominent folks. They have released two further singles to date, ‘Progress’ and ‘Liver’.
Japanese Jesus have appeared on Spotify’s new music podcast ‘The Tastemaker, BBC Radio Wales (Janice Long - RIP), RTE 2FM (Dan Hegarty), and Adam Devonshire’s (Bass Player with IDLES) radio show on SWU FM.
