The Seven presents Darren Emerson Ex-Underworld/Detone/Boys Own at the Record Room
Underworld, alongside Chemical Brothers, Prodigy, Orbital, Aphex Twin and Future Sound of London, were leading artists in the ground-up emergence of electronic music across the English rave and club scene of the 1990s, and Emerson has been a formative influence within the genre since, with records like Born Slippy, Rez and Cowgirl all remaining classics.
Darren Emerson’s name is synonymous with the founding period of dance music in the UK. His pioneering band Underworld, alongside Chemical Brothers, Prodigy, Orbital, Aphex Twin and Future Sound of London, were leading artists in the ground-up emergence of electronic music across the English rave and club scene of the 1990s. The classic Born Slippy raised Emerson and his Underworld partners Karl Hyde and Rick Smith to huge fame following its signature use in Danny Boyle’s Trainspotting, but tracks and albums including Rez, Cowgirl, dubnobasswithmyheadman, Second Toughest in the Infants and Beaucoup Fish made sure they stayed there.
Emerson started his music career in the late 1980s, joining Underworld as a DJ and producer In the early ‘90s, and playing a significant role in shaping the evolving and emerging sound of electronic music from that point onward. In 2000, he left the band to focus on his solo career, releasing numerous successful albums in the time since, including Global Underground’s Uruguay, Singapore and Bogata albums.
Emerson has remained at the forefront of the electronic music throughout his career, continually pushing boundaries and exploring new sound. His innovative approach to music production and his dynamic live performances have earned him a fanbase across the world, and cemented his status as a true pioneer within the industry, with his contribution to electronic music recognised with numerous awards and accolades.
Teasing a limited run of small club shows, Underworld’s Darren Emerson plays Limerick’s Record Room on Saturday June 21st, club doors on the night are at 10pm, with support from Arveene.
