Come see 2 of Ireland's Funkiest and most Soulful bands!
Ireland is treated to some of the funkiest music on the island this November as east coast instrumental funk band Chief Keegan team up with west coast soul group The Leon Stax Equation for a 4 gig tour across 3 of the provinces.
The Leon Stax Equation are a Galway based 6 piece soul outfit headed by drummer and lead-singer Leon Stax. Their music is a blend of brass led funk and soul music from artists like James Brown'and Sharon Jones and The Dap Kings with vocals reminiscent of The Black Keys and Lee Fields.
Since their formation in 2022 they have been blazing a trail on the Irish live scene and beyond with a tour of the USA in their first year and gigs on the continent in 2024.
They have released 2 albums to date and have been described by Irish DJ and roots music blogger Joe Blogs as an 'Trish band that knows exactly what soul music is all about'
The quartet of keyboardist Luke Dunford, guitarist Mark Dudley, bassist Alan Elliott, and drummer Cian Hanley are collectively Chief Keegan. Their unique brand of "feel-good music" has been brought around Ireland to festivals such as Electric Picnic, Cork Jazz Festival, and the Bray Jazz Festival as well as touring relentlessly throughout Ireland and Northern Ireland.
Never an act to cool their heels, the band have just released their debut album having already blasted out 3 EPs which received countrywide adoration and acclaim on the Irish soul scene.
Even now they are working on their second album with the first single releases imminent.
Jazz weekly have said of their sound
"The band has a funky Memphis feel, that is rich and swampy"
