Prima Volta are proud to present Cuban/Irish singer Qbanaa alongside Dublin jazz group Oceanna for her debut Limerick gig.
Qbanaa, - a Cuban/Irish singer-songwriter - frequently described as a jazzy neo-soul artist, mixes her inspirations from Erykah Badu, Hiatus Kaiyote, Kali Uchis, Khruangbin, Amy Winehouse and Greentea Peng, to name a few. Based in Dublin, Qbanaa grew up travelling back and forth from Cuba where music and salsa dancing were integral parts of her childhood. A dancer for 10 years, she also sang in school choirs and with her grandmother in Spanish Mass, where she grew up in North Frederick Street Flats, D1.
She has collaborated with Absentee and released her debut single Truth and Desire last year which was followed up with her Rise Above EP. She will be backed on the night by Oceanna, a Dublin based jazz band with a mixture of Irish and South American musicians. The band performed for the first time in August 2022 and in less than one year has written 9 original songs which are intended to be released in two different EP’s in the middle and end of this year.
Support on the night comes from DeCarteret and Prima Volta selectors Peter Curtin and Bill Baramus
